The Communication Networks Institute TUDO (CNI) focuses, in research and teaching, on the development and quantitative performance evaluation of cutting-edge communication networks and services for numerous challenging application areas. TUDO employs currently 25 scientists, which are involved in large-scale research projects funded by the EU and the German research and technology ministry. The research work of TUDO is regularly published primarily on international IEEE conferences. A specific focus of the research work is the developmentof large-scale, spatially distributed sensor/actor networks for the control of security sensitive processes in telemedicine, industrial automation and energy systems as well as emergency prevention and response. A quite unique collection of lab equipment of network emulators for all relevant networking technologies, such as GPRS, UMTS, HSPA, LTE, WiMAX, and at least a TETRA base station allows TUDO to provide a realistic network environment for experimental analysis. At the same time, TUDO contributes heavily to the international project OMNeT++ to develop a network simulator allowing the analysis of large-scale networking scenarios under extreme conditions TUDO is part of the ComNets Community bringing together all german communication networks Design of the ‘common information space’ framework and communication network artefacts and implementation of the communication system.
